Unthinkable.
Feb. 9th, 2011 09:56 pmThat's what I watched tonight with Shannon. I was tired of working at home (we had 15 inches last night... 75 was smooth, baby, smooth. AS in like a bowling alley smooth)
so, at about 5ish, give or take, I stopped working on the work laptop and sat down in the living room and we watched Unthinkable, free on that net flicky.
Staring Samuel Jackson as a man without a true name, hired by the government to deal with terrorists the way they would like to deal with terrorists. And this time they have a doozy. Crazy terrorist guy has planted 3 bombs of atomic nature. He has posted pictures of their locations. Not like a city map with arrows pointing and saying "here it is!", but pictures of walls in rooms, pictures of a garage door. It would be like me posting a picture of my front room and say "Okay, come find me."
Samuel Jackson is a crazy terrorist hating guy. He is the guy that does the horrible stuff that may need to be done to take care of bidness. He does that stuff that's... well.... unthinkable. He thinks about it because we don't want to.
But somewhere in our secret hearts, places that we don't talk about at our tea parties, we want him on that wall... we need him on that... Um.. wait. Wrong movie.
Anyway, it is one of those movies that created CONVERSATION between the Mrs and myself. A thought provoking, ethical / moral discussion about how far should things go and would you ever...? The answer is I would go pretty far, and she'd let me as long as she didn't have to see it.
This movie moved along at a good clip, speedy like. It has violence, and some painful violence, like a man's finger being sliced off, but nothing like the 100 death kills you find in some children's movies. There is a mention of 53 people being killed, but it's not a visual, so much. There is language, so if language offends, tough nuggets. Go rent something else. I like real stuff, and people Cuss! They do! I've heard 'em!
By the way... even though this movie may provoke thought, it's not a puzzle movie. you don't have to figure out a thing in this movie. It's just like reading a well paced novel where the author presents his ideas and at the end, you are left just full enough, with your mind thinking "What would you do if...?"
Free on Netflix. Called Unthinkable, with Samuel Jackson, of those Mothe****ker snake fame. My favorite movie of his was called Formula 51, but I also like his characterization in Unbreakable. Yeah... I like me some Sam.
