I got this wild hair...

See, for a while now, I've been wondering about this lil pub... Louies, which just opened up about 6 months ago, across the river in Jenks. It looked like a fun place, or at least it looked like it looked like a fun place. It looked like a KID friendly place, because there are portions of my big ol' family that has small children, and by gum, we needed to find a place like that so they could join us when they got the hankering to.
So, I texted up my good buddy Tim (
tapestry01), and say "HEY!" He said "What?" I said "Let's go check out that new pub in Jenks!" He said "Okie Dokie"
And that was that. We got there at 3:30 pm and we left at 9:30 pm. Yep, we were there 6 hours. SIX hours! The last half we were joined by my little sis, Jenny - known as
the_jenny_of_oz, and that was wonderful as I haven't had that much time to spend with her in a situation where I could just be myself and she could just be my cute lil sis. Now, I have the three noogies on my right arm to show she is my cute lil sis, and she actually thinks that slugging me in the arm can hurt me. Bless her heart.
On with the review. Six hours, folks! This means that Tim and I went through 3 beers, two families sitting next to us (with children in ages ranging from pooping in diapers to being old enough to wear a sweater that I liked), and one entire shift change. Jenny got to go through one family and probably four of Tim's beers, while I had 2 coffees (or was it three) and a frozen lemonade.
Frozen lemonade is one of my delightful sins... something I don't get very often, but now I know where I can go to get one, any time I want. And it was gooo ooo oood! Just sour enough to please the discriminating tongue. Now, they can also put a bit of vodka or some other sort of liquor in it, but my belief is that I just want my lemonade just like I want my coffee. No adulteration, if you please.
As for food - The prices were reasonable, very much so. The Turtle Cheese Cake, for just around 5 dollars was easily two or three inches thick, and inch and a half high, and about 5 inches long. No skinny little sliver of a morsel here, no sirree! This was cheese cake the way it was meant to be... big enough to keep you from needing to order a second piece.
I had a club sandwich, which as boring as it sounds, just a BLT with mayo, was not boring at all. Six slices of wheat berry bread went into this club, making the whole thing a stack of food, well put together and easily edible. The tomato was fresh, the lettuce was crisp and the bacon was done just right. To paraphrase a funnier man than I "the bacon is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky, I love that"
The sandwich was just about 8 bucks and well worth the price. I have eaten at places where the food wasn't worth what I paid for it, even if the portion was large. Here the portion was large, the service excellent and with a smile and the company excellent. Worth ever penny.
And for those that care about these things, the restrooms were kind of smallish (in the mens, it was one urinal and a handicap stall - I can't speak about the womens... not since the court order, anyway.), but they were very clean and well kept. They had magic faucets that shot water at the right temperature and stopped when you wanted them to stop. And really... what more would you want a faucet to do?
Six hours, folks. Six hours, sitting on my butt, laughing and talking and doing nothing important except enjoying life. If that isn't a good recommendation for a place to go and hang out, I don't know what is.

Date: 2009-10-10 04:03 am (UTC)And yes, Jenny proved to me to night she really is my little sister. Punched me in the arm three times, just to show she could. She's a mean lil cuss when she wants to be. I, of course, punched her right back. Out of love, though.

Date: 2009-10-10 04:12 am (UTC)By the way, one of these days, you've got to come to Cushing and let me buy you a piece of pie from Steer Inn. All made fresh, from scratch, homemade with secret family recipies, and HUGE slices! We could each get one, share, and still have pie to take home, they are that big. I had the coconut cream today, and it was divine!!
