the world is just odd sometimes...

In 2006, I wrote a short book about a gent who basically was a retired spy. He still worked a bit, behind a desk. Then he found out that he had a daughter, who had been embroiled by the white slavery trade near Croatia. He took care of the situation.
Interesting. I just watched the movie Taken with Liam Neeson. Darned good flick. Very suspenseful. It came out last year, in 2008. It was about a gent who basically was a retired spy. He still worked a bit, when he needed the money. Then his daughter took a trip to Paris and became embroiled in the white slavery trade, which was based out of Bosnia, which is just to the East of Croatia. He took care of the situation.
I thought the movie was very well done, and Liam is one of my favorite actors. About 1/2 way through I started to go "Hmmmm." Granted, there were quite a number of differences. Granted, it was cleaner than what I wrote and there wasn't any of that Science fictiony stuff that I tried to keep out of it.
Still... it's not the first time I've seen an idea I had presented to me. Robin Williams in the mid 70's. Terry Pratchett in a variety of forms. Neil Gaimen in style. So, hey... it just shows that I got talent! Or at least, I come up with ideas that other folks already have.
So... I recommend this movie, if you haven't seen it. It's a white knuckles sorta flick and not a lot of improbability in it.
