The Doc...

DocJeff is a bit busy right now. I received an email explaining that the cancer had metastasized and he is focusing on his health and the time he has left.

He could be gruff, he could be irreverent, he could be an ass. He is also a person of great warmth and caring, easily touched by the simple things in life, and a great lover OF life. He is my brother and my friend and a love of mine. I will miss him greatly.

"All things pass from this plane of existence, in time. Even you, my son, will someday see the stars burn away, the earth beneath your feet crumble, and the sky turn dark and never light again. So it is with all things."

I received an email from his assistant, Mandy. The words may have come from Doc, but they were written by her. I suspect, knowing Doc's penchant for perfection that they were fairly close. Besides, about a month ago, he left a bit of a teaser, from a medical practitioner who had given him X amount of time. Doc had gotten a second opinion from another medical practitioner who offered to try to extend Doc's life with aggressive therapy.

Regardless, it is unknown if Doc will be back. If he isn't, if he never makes it back to LJ, then I know he'll be all over, rather than in one place.

I have sent our love and support, Kim. The email I received was from his assistant. Doc may, or may not be able to communicate through email. Cancer, once it becomes wide spread, saps pretty much all of your strength. My brother and father went from being fairly mobile one week, to absolutely not strength the next.

If and when I hear from him or his assistant, I'll pass it on, you bet.

I heard from Doc tonight, Kim. I passed your name, specifically, as one that has expressed an interest in hearing from him, if he the time and energy.

The feel I got from his letters was one of calm acceptance. What will be, will be. He's an incredible person, my friend Doc.

Don't be surprised if you hear from him. Or, be surprised. He surprised me.

Yea, I can honestly say he is one who will "leave it better".

Thanks for the update.

I've passed it long, Peddler. I feel that Doc will be roaming the fields near your Orange Grove near the Village of Shopkeepers soon. He's gonna be a bit confused, I'm sure. I do think that the Village needs someone to look after homeless pets, don't you?

I do indeed. I'm very sad and I wish he had let some of us closer than he did.

Peddler, I think that Doc let us in further than even he thought he did. Being a die hard skeptic of human nature myself, I know how closed a person can be.

He shared his disappointments with his siblings, his loss of his pets (which he considered his children and loved ones), his frustrations with the governmental agencies and the medical community. He let us see what he thought was funny, which ranged from the slightly perverse to a child-like simplicity. He let us into his personal life, talking not quite cryptically about his relationships. He shared his heart and his mind and never once bragged about how intelligent he was or never let anyone feel that he felt superior. He worked for the Military in Cryptography, for goodness sake. He is a complex and yet a very simple man.

Doc is the stuff of legends.

Don't be sad, Peddler. I knew him briefly, and I feel about him as I felt about my baby brother when he had to go. Rejoice in who he is and what he means to you. Carry him in your heart, and he will never, ever, be gone.

If or when you speak to him again, let him know that I am thinking of him. I've known him on lj only briefly, and I regret that I didn't get to know him sooner. Please pass on my very best wishes.

I sent an email to his assistant to pass the thoughts along, Amber. You and I and Doc are a lot alike in temperament. There were a few things that were different, and that only enhanced the friendship. He's a jewel of a person.

Thank you very much. My heart is saddened knowing we may be without his words and companionship here, but joyful in the knowledge that such seperations are only temporary in the grand scheme of things.

I heard from him tonight. The feel the letters carried were calm and gentle and accepting. He passes his love and appreciation to all of us here. Yeah, I don't think we'll be without him forever.

Oh my. I didn't know it had gotten that far. Please pass along the word that I love him and I'm thinking of him. He's been a dear, dear friend from day one that we "met."

I take pleasure in remembering that our latest interaction was to flirt!

I noticed last week... I think it was Friday, that my flist had gotten smaller. I posted right then, and received an email from his assistant, Mandy, today that the cancer had gone as far as it is. I responded to let him know that he is loved and cherished, and that he has many friends past the veil to help him adjust once he passed through the pain.
