Agreed. Does running into a burning building make one stupid? Depends on the circumstances. And the ability to do math is something I'm not terribly good at either, whereas my brother Sam and my father can do multiple conversions in their head. On the other hand, working with spatial things, getting mechanical things to work and dealing with electrical things was my forte' and there was more than one time they would just say "Chet, fix this."
Oddly enough, I'm more one to believe that intelligence is inversely proportionate to the amount of tolerance we have for obvious stupidity. Course, I'm biased because I'm an intellectual snob. It was Einstein who once said "Genius is defined as being able to see what is obvious." Of course, what is obvious is purely a subjective view.
