Let's see. I have made a trip with Griz and Bags to the Faire! It was incredible, to be honest with you. I went last year and stayed about 2 hours. Maybe a bit more. I was with Griz at that time, and I don't think I was as happy as I could have been...

But this year! A whole 'nuther world altogether. We got to the faire about 5:20 pm on Saturday, so we wouldn't miss the Handfasting of Jenny and Bruce... but we did anyway because we got there a bit late, and the stupid lady at the hotel didn't know how to handle a cash transaction, and she lost one of the room applications, and the rain had caused the patrons to leave early and so the Faire closed early and so the Handfasting started early and we got there after all the ceremony was done, and we met everybody in the bower, and we were introduced all around, but we still missed the thing and we were just a bit sad about it.

We went down to the big house, Di's house, the wonderful woman who owns the land that the faire is on. There was a cake celebration with cake in Bruce's face (pictures later) and cake in Jenny's face, but much nicer than the cake she put in Bruce's face. Then everybody had cake and laughed and had a wonderful time. It was too short, but then we were invited to go to dinner.

So, B&G and me piled into the car (they wouldn't let me drive any more, due to ... um... the incident with umm... mud and stuff. There might have been a cow.) We headed to Marshfield, Mo, to meet at a place called La Hacienda, which turned out to be a combination RV park, Mexican diner, laundry mat and swimming pool. Seemed like a cool place, but when we went inside, there wasn't hardly any room for us. We sorta got the idea we were in the wrong place.

And we were! The real place was called... umm.. La something or other. It was made out of an old Pizza hut, the folks were really friendly and the food was... adequate. The only couple of things that were really cool were the chips, which were crispy and relatively fresh and something that was called a "Bucket of Food." I'm not really sure what was in it, and when Bags asked, "Is that a bucket of food?" I didn't believe him. I turned around, and sure enough, it was indeed a bucket o' food

I asked one of the waiters, I think it may have been the manager, what the bucket of food was, and he said, and I quote, "It is a bucket of food." OOooookay. We sorta left it at that. If someone wants to eat a bucket of food, that's their business, but still... it's kinda odd. In fact, we think she ate the bucket.

So, after leaving La Casa of the bucket of food, we traveled back to Seymour, which is where we had our rooms booked at. We stopped at the Seymour liquor store and Bags and Griz picked up beer and stuff... I think Griz got something called "Feckin Whiskey", cuz thats what she called it. Bags picked up two types of beer... one that looked like it was called "Wolfenstein" and another that I don't remember.

This was, by the way, Missouri Beer, not Oklahoma beer. And I, humble Pockets that I am, do not drink very much in the way of strong drink. Fortunately, the results were that I was able to sleep much earlier than normal, getting my eyes shut and heading off to dreamland at 11:30 pm. It was nice to go to sleep that early, because I woke at 7:30 the next morning. I think it was the drink, but it might have also been the trains that ran consistently though the night. Train noises make me go to sleep easily.

The downside was that it encouraged me to find out how bouncy the bed was, and I swear I got about 3 feet of good clear air under my butt before I felt something go 'twing' and that was the end of my bouncing. We, Griz and Bags, that is, think I may have compressed my spine in the wrong place. It's possible. I felt pretty lucky that I didn't get any pain from it, just a very odd feeling and my balance seemed to be off a bit. Who knows? Maybe it fixed something. I dunno. All I know is I have a bit of soreness from being done something to, and I don't feel any pain at all... that wee bit of soreness.

BUT I did get to bounce on a mighty fine bouncible bed, that's for sure and true! Three feet of clear air under my tail bone! How incredibly cool is that?

I woke up at 7:30 am and I felt pretty good. I went outside and walked around for quite a bit, just to make sure I hadn't crippled myself, and fortunately I hadn't. Like I said, it was just a bit of soreness.

So, after a bit of this and that and t'other, Griz and Bags and I went over to Baldy's Cafe, and Oh my Goodness stars and garters, it was GOOOOD. I had a thing called the ham scramble, which was a large piece of ham over a plateful of hashbrowns and the whole thing was covered by a plateful of scrambled eggs. That makes 3 platefuls, by the way. It was goooooo-oooo-oooood!

After that, we waddled out to the car, and I got to take a picture of a very old Ford Falcon, which is one of my very favorite automobiles in the whole world. (Yes, yes, Capitani, I'll get the pictures. First though, I must tell the story, or else it will be lost... fortunately, it's closer to the end than it is to the beginning.)

We finally, after Bags and Griz had waited for me to do what I did, we got in the car and drove off down Highway C to find Highway 38, so we could connect with Highway F and find the Faire, even though we had found it the night before.

Oh, it was a lovely start of the day, the sun was shining and the clouds were not present at that early time in the morning. They did come back later that day, though. Still the countryside was lush and green and we saw tall corn and Amish Buggies and Such a cool surprise! A wild turkey jumped in front of the car, and Bags slowed down just enough that we could see the bugger run across the road, jump on to a fence and fly- FLY- away. A wild turkey! I have never seen a wild turkey, ever, ever, ever, ever! And here one was, right in front of the car. How very, very cool! That made two wild animals in the wild in one entire week. A fox earlier (on Wednesday) and one today!

And we went to the Faire! Not as anybody but US! And it was incredibly fun, fun, fun! I saw and ate fresh baked bread from a fresh baked bread oven, and I got to meet Debbie the baker, who was a cool person in the very best baker sort of sense. A wonderful woman named... um.... heck, she admitted she would forget my name and here I have forgotten hers. It begins with an E though! I know that much. She had an E at the beginning and two ees in the middle of her name. Now, you might think that would make it easier, but it doesn't, not even a little bit. It's still lost inside of my head, because Nanny McPhee is on the Telly and there is a character named Evangeline in it and that name has three Es in it too, but darn it all that is NOT the name and now I can't remember it. *sigh* It's that glitch in my head. At least I remember the first letter of her name. Anyway, she was a lovely woman, who lent me the honey she uses for her tea to put on my fresh hot bread.

I got to watch the Blacksmith, smith a piece of steel into a cookfire hook. And I got to watch all sorts of people and folks just walking and doing what they were doing, and it was an adventure! I was a happy little Pockets, let me tell you. I saw players perform a very abbreviated version of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark. And got to watch Bags juggle sticks (which I promise myself to do next time.. I'm pretty sure I'll be good at it). And I got to sit and talk to a lady named Ginia (which is short for Virginia) and she has a son named Justice, as in There ain't no...

I took pictures of everything, and Yes, Yes, Yes, Capitani, I will post them, soon. The story, though.. it's almost done.

I fell back in love with Nikki, just because of her incredible soul and her face. Course, it won't turn to much. I would never put her through such a thing. She is far too nice a person for that.

Jenny, the previous mentioned, had Simon with her, and I had Capi's Tiger with me, so they got to meet and get acquainted. Jenny looked radiant, as did everyone there, and I was glad she stuck around us as much as she did.

I met a bunch of new folks, who I will eventually remember the names of and they will know that I don't have much luck with names. My dear niece Amber was there, looking her lovely best. Yeah, she's a winner and a keeper. I does love my Bob, I does.

I formally introduced myself to bountifulpots and her mother motherpockets and her fatherseymoure, who is an incredible intellect and I sat and listened to his story about how America was named because of pickles! It was a wonderful experience. Motherpockets wore a wonderful cloak and hat decorated with stars and moons and carried a large book. I tried to take a picture of her, but silly old camera wouldn't co-operate, but I did get a picture of her as she faded into the mists (I think she witched my camera, just for that). Bountifulpots, is, in a word, lovely, and in two words, lovely and vivacious, and in three words... well... that would be pushing it, I think. Needless to say, it was very nice to meet her.

Let's see... I know I met other folks. My cuter Evil Twin, April was there, as was her husband, Chris, and their son, the Squire.

I saw Brother William, who was walking and doing his brotherly stuff. He has a really cool Sewing machine that will sew through 2 layers of leather! Brother, I think it's time for you to maybe dive into the leather goods business. Man! 2 layers of leather!

And the Queen! I saw the Queen! Pockets and Bags and Grizelda all got to see Queen Elizabeth, and we had to make sure we said our goodbyes to her. And yes, I think I got a class-A picture of her! Later, though... later!

Aw heck, I could go on and on if I could remember all the folks. But I'm here to tell you it was so wonderful to be there with my best chums in the whole world! Much more fun and they reminded me that we had things to do and people to see far too soon.

Reluctantly, we left and drove home. Which is where I'm at now. But I'll tell you, my heart is with White Hart. So cool, so nice, so.... friendly. I think next year, if I can do it, I'll just go there and stay for as long as they'll let me.

Pictures forth comming. My arms are tired and I want to go watch Nanny McPhee.

White Hart folks! Thank you so much, so much for allowing me a little fun.

It's all my fault.:-(
I have not had funds to buy any garb, I bought material last year in hopes of paying Kim to make me a bodice, but she has been much too busy with garb for cast members at OKRF and other endeavors for me to ask again. I'll figure something out...

Ah. Have you never done a bodice? Do you sew? If you sew, the first go at a bodice can be intimidating, but once you've done one, you'll realize they're not all that hard, just finicky. It helps to have someone else who sews nearby when you do a bodice, tho. Fitting is all-important!

sigh...I have not made a garment since 1976 in Home Ec class. I am prepared to tackle giving a go at making a skirt and chemise, I even tried to find garganusized patterns online last night..but the bodice...is vewy, vewy scary.

Not having sewn since 1976 qualifies you as... a beginner. So yeah, a bodice would certainly be very scary. I wonder if Susi would have the time to work you thru one at some point. It's pretty fast, once you get going. You two could do it in an afternoon, if you can find that much time when you are both free.

My FIRST piece of advice is.... make yourself a mock-bodice in some cheap fabric you won't mind wasting. Once you get the thing to fit you correctly, you use THAT as your pattern, see? So you never really risk your GOOD fabric.

I have scads of muslin on hand for this purpose... And once i've done a mock-up, i feel very free to write all over it anything i might want to remember two years from now if i want to try again! Cuz i surely won't REMEMBER! *LOL*

The SECOND bit of advice i have is you MUST line it. It won't be sturdy enuf without lining, and boning! Don't scrimp on either!

My final piece of advice is take the time to get the mock-up to fit you *perfectly*, even if that means messing with it (putting it on and taking it off, stitching it and ripping it out over and over and over) for hours on end, because this is how you make your real bodice fit you *exactly* right. This is an extremely *fitted* garment, and it's worth the bother in the mock-up stages to have it come out beautifully later.

I might add... once you get it to come out grand? You just might want to make *another* one immediately, so you'll have two while your confidence is high and while you remember everything. *grin*

All that said, you really need to work with someone who knows how. I KNOW you got peeps around there who know how. Who, besides the eternally-swamped Susi? I only suggested her because we all know how good she is at it, but of course, she's always so busy, too. *sigh* Who else is handy? Y'all need a serious sewing night!!

Thank you sweetest Capi, Somehow I'll figure it out, I will start saving again for garb. I used up my stash for this trip, and I have a Convention in July that will use up the rest of my recreation stash. After that I can start saving again, cuz whoever I find that has the time will need proper compensation. I'm not gonna be easy to fit. I found this website online last night, it's from an Italian dress but I thought it gave some real good pointers on measuring and making a pattern.. What do you think? http://homepages.wmich.edu/~rowen/renbk/rendressbook.html#anchor1163546

Ah! Indeed yes! There is also a tried-and-true duct-tape method that requires you, two t-shirts that will be destroyed during the process, a LOT of duct tape, and at least one VERY good friend. *LOL* That method, done right, works out VERY well in giving you a precise pattern.

Even so, always you will need to find someone to work with you! I would never start a beginner with a bodice, altho i might start her with a vest! And they are not *terribly* different!

The duct tape method sounds like one that would involve lots of laughing! I'm also looking at the Irish over dresses, maybe I could make a corset like they describe on that same website to wear underneath an Irish overdress and chemise...sound more plausible for a beginner?

A corsette.... i've made a few, and to my mind, those are harder than bodices. Maybe that's an "in the eye of the beholder" kind of thing, but that's how i see it. You have to sew up a lot of tracks into which you will later install boning, see? It's.... kind of picky and awkward work.

MAN i wish i was there. It'd be so fun to teach you this stuff myself!

I'm no spectacular seamstress, by any stretch of the imagination, but I can make a simple chemise and bloomers easily enough. Remind me next time we get together and I will grab your measurements. It would be my pleasure to gift you with those simple staples of garb, and you can always upgrade later and have them for spares or rainy days.

{{{Great BIG HUGS and a SMOOCH TOO! }}} Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! August or whatever time you find you have free would be WONDERFUL! I know how busy you are, so you just let me know when. I can start gathering the rest of the stuff we will need. I got some fabric last year at Fabricrack but will need to get a list of other things that will be needed like boning and lining and grommets and such. I will bring a pad and pen tomorrow and ask you what to get and where the best place is to get it. *sniff* I can haz GARB!

You betcha, sweetie. The boning and the grommets are no problem; I order those in quantity and you can get them from me.

Other than the fabric, all you need is $5/yard cotton canvas from WallyWorld.
