Date: 2006-08-31 04:35 am (UTC)It was in 1977, when the world was a lot different in small town Oklahoma. It was only about 6 months, but it taught me a lot about survivability. I slept on the park benches in Central park, when it rained, I found an over pass and snuggled down. It was noisy, but you get used to a lot. Dumpster diving came very naturally, just cuz you give up your pride. You learn to wash when you can, and you learn that swimming in apartment house pools with your clothes on is a good alternative to a coinop laundry.
My parents split up, and I was severly pissed off at both of them. I refused to live with either of them, and I didn't have any friends to speak of that would put up with me for any great length of time. It was summer, so I didn't have to worry about being cold. Basically, I suspect I was lucky. Very, Very lucky. And stupid. It was an adventure, that's about all I can say.
Now, I wouldn't ever, ever, every, want to go back to that. I found a job, moved in with my mom and my brother, and never looked back.
