Veteran thoughts.

Today is Veterans Day. It's an interesting thing because I thought it was tomorrow. Not very interesting perhaps, but there it is.
War is a horrible thing. I don't believe there's many that would argue with that. However, there it is as well.
Since War is a thing that is, there are and will be those that are go to serve in the hope and believe that the ideals they serve are the right ones. It doesn't matter if it is a 'just' War, as it would be hard for me to wrap my head around that. What does matter is that there are men and women, brave and not, who GO and do what they do to the best of their ability so that WE, those of us that sleep in warm beds and watch our televisions, can continue to do so. WE, the people, can live in relative ignorance of What it's like over there.
It is for that, for standing on the wall, for digging in, for living in the constant stress of fear of death, that I honor these brave, brave soldiers. All we are and all we have been is a direct result of these warriors protecting our interests and our lives.
Let us not ever forget those that have gone before and not returned. Let us celebrate their lives and their sacrifices.
Let us also remember and cherish the lives of those who did return, carrying in their memories and bodies scars that few of us, the We The People they protect, can or want to imagine. These living heroes are the embodiment of the honor and belief in the United States of America.
They have, with their hearts and souls, defended ME, and with my ego, that's the most important thing to me. They have, with their tired arms and nightmare filled nights, enabled me the very freedom to write this, to be who and what I am.
I thank you, warriors and defenders of the faith. I shed tears over the wounds you carry, and I rejoice for those of you who return.
