In pause - Soup Kitchen; the legend
Jul. 30th, 2008 05:42 pmYou know... I don't think I ever visited the Soup Kitchen. I probably stood right next to it and never knew I was... standing next to it, I mean. But I have heard stories, and I have heard legends, and I have met the folk involved, and they are very fine folk indeed. I have no doubt that this bit o' history will not go into the great dark without a life of it's own to keep it going.
Now, I know a bit of legends, and I know a bit of stories. I'm a bit of both, and it is truly a sad, sad thing when the reality that make up a legend is supplanted by the truth of the situation. Because, darling ones, truth and reality very rarely ever meet on the same ground. Of this I know a whole bunch, because I, like all of you, are made up of both, and sometimes it is very hard to tell the difference.
The cool thing is... Legends don't have to fade away, the reality is still there, even after the truth has melted into the puddle it came from. There is nothing that says that the Soup Kitchen won't exist in this time and but in a different space. That is up to those who carry the legend in their heart and minds and keep it strong until it can be birth'd anew. Perhaps not as pure, perhaps not as really really true as its original, but still there, in heart and purpose.
Morn not, oh loved ones who do morn. All things change, all things grow, all things morph. Such is it always. Legends come and legends grow. They never truly fade. Of this I know a whole, whole bunch.
But still, because I understand loss pretty darn well, I offer this tiny bit from my own choice of musical muse: Jonathan Coulton, he of Code Monkey fame, but oh so much more - When You Go.
I think, since I absolutely love his music, that I will post a song a week for however long it takes me to forget to post a song a week. Or, you can go and help the man out, by purchasing some of his music at his website. Trust me... you can find it if you need it.
