I remember a number of times that I have read something in a novel and thought "Hmm.. I'd do it differently", so I don't feel so bad. He gave nothing away, and fully expected her to be fun, and he also expected her to be his partner in convincing Laura to stay at least one more night. Sharon did so, in exactly the way that Wells expected. That is why he says to Laura, "That's why I called her."
It was really kinda thought out, and I think I did a pretty good job. Course, ever first draft can use some re-writes, and that, my dear Capi, is why I have YOU!
